For the last two years, I have had the pleasure of working with many Three Principles practitioners who are excited to have a team research their program. THANK YOU!
Every single time, while we are in the development process (research design), practitioners have asked me (essentially), “WHY THAT?
What does that question (usually on a questionnaire) have to do with the Three Principles of Health Realization?”
Whether the question has to do with determining mental health symptoms or severity (why would 3P people need to know that?) or is related to describing the potential harm that could be experienced when a participant is enrolled in the research (what harm?).. the answer is: the research is not for you!
The people we collaborate with are Three Principles practitioners already. You believe in your work, you see changes in your clients and typically you are passionate about what you do.
There is a BIG difference between researching a 3P program and delivering a 3P program. The goal of a practitioner is to convey understanding. The goal of the researcher is to measure what is happening when a program (any program) is delivered.
Do people change? How do they change?
The good news is that spiritual understanding appears to change thinking and apparently behavior. As researchers, we are looking "downstream" of the 3P understanding because that is what we can measure.
So, will research enlighten the reader and deliver a transformation? No, probably not.
However, well-documented examples of cognitive and behavioral changes that happen in relationship to learning the 3P? Well, that leads to evidenced-based research discussions, new research endeavors and potentially more opportunities for 3P practitioners to deliver new programming.
Questions about designing a wee-bit of research? Email me to join our survey design conversation for 3P practitioners on Monday, October 14th, 2019.
Either way, I hope you ask your clients questions and learn new stuff!
